In a landmark meeting held at the Kwara State Ministry of Livestock Development, Commissioner Hon. Oloruntoyosi Ayobola Thomas welcomed representatives from various tertiary institutions across the state to discuss an exciting new initiative under the KWALES Programme: the Campus Livestock Network. This flagship Youth-in-Livestock initiative aims to expose students to the myriad opportunities within the livestock sector while embodying the impactful mantra, “Earn While You Learn.”
As the meeting commenced, the atmosphere buzzed with enthusiasm and collaboration. Delegates from prestigious institutions—including the University of Ilorin, Kwara State University (KWASU), Al-Hikmah University, Kwara State Polytechnic, Landmark University, and Thomas Adewunmi University—came together to share ideas and insights on how best to implement this innovative initiative. The sense of purpose in the room was unmistakable; all participants recognized the potential for this collaboration to redefine the landscape of agricultural education and practice in Kwara State.

Hon. Thomas articulated the vision behind the Campus Livestock Network, emphasizing the program’s commitment to empowering youth with practical skills and real-world experience. “Our youth are the backbone of our future,” she stated passionately. “By linking educational institutions with the livestock sector, we are creating avenues for our students to gain valuable insights and earn an income while they learn. This not only enhances their educational journey but also fosters a culture of entrepreneurship in agriculture.”
One of the most exciting outcomes of the meeting was the delegation’s agreement to inaugurate the Campus Livestock Network on the 19th of December, 2025. This upcoming event promises to gather students, educators, and industry stakeholders to celebrate the keys to unlocking a brighter future in livestock development. While the exact date for the flagship program’s launch is still to be announced, the anticipation is already palpable, with participants eager to take part in shaping a new era of agricultural innovation.

AdunGreen Foundation represented by Mr. Olaribigbe Tajudeen, the KWALES Programme Coordinator echoed that “Earn While You Learn” model is particularly significant, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in livestock management while simultaneously earning an income. This approach not only alleviates some financial burdens but also prepares students for real-world challenges, ensuring that they graduate equipped with both knowledge and practical skills.
The partnership between the Kwara State government, AdunGreen Foundation and tertiary institutions signifies a robust commitment to creating a sustainable agricultural economy. By weaving together the expertise of seasoned educators with the innovative spirit of young minds, the Campus Livestock Network aims to inspire a generation of agricultural leaders who will make meaningful contributions to the livestock sector.
As the meeting drew to a close, the sense of hope and collaboration was evident. Representatives left with a renewed sense of purpose, motivated to engage their student bodies and prepare them for the opportunities the network will provide. The Campus Livestock Network stands poised to ignite a passion for agriculture among students, fostering a vibrant community of young entrepreneurs ready to make their mark in the livestock industry.
The future of Kwara’s livestock sector is bright, and with initiatives like the Campus Livestock Network under the KWALES Programme, the state is well on its way to becoming a leader in agricultural innovation and sustainability. Together, as educators, students, and industry stakeholders, we are on the cusp of an agricultural renaissance—one that will empower our youth and ultimately enhance the livelihoods of our communities.
